Anesthesia
At Oral Surgery + Lafayette, patient comfort and safety are our top priorities. To ensure a positive and pain-free experience during oral surgical procedures, we offer a range of anesthesia options administered by our skilled team of anesthesia providers.
Types of Anesthesia
Local Anesthesia: Local anesthesia involves the administration of medication directly to the treatment area to numb the nerves and block sensation. It is commonly used for minor oral surgeries and allows patients to remain awake and aware during the procedure while experiencing minimal discomfort.
IV Sedation: Intravenous (IV) sedation, also known as twilight sedation, involves the administration of sedative medications through a vein to induce a state of deep relaxation and reduced awareness. Patients may drift in and out of consciousness but can typically respond to verbal cues from the oral surgeon.
General Anesthesia: General anesthesia involves the administration of medications to induce a temporary loss of consciousness, rendering the patient completely asleep and unaware during the procedure. It is typically reserved for complex or lengthy surgeries and is administered and monitored by a board-certified anesthesiologist.
